Back Alley Films is the production arm of the T2 + Back Alley Films company — the arm that excels not only in traditional :30 spot making, but in creating web-based digital content, and long-form entertainment. Back Alley has an executive producer, a creative director, and a head of production along with a roster of both seasoned and non-traditional Dp’s and directors, all of whom understand challenging budgets and the new multi-platform objectives. And if we don’t have the right director on our roster, we’ll find the right one — and bring them to the project. It’s flexibility and collaboration you can count on. Back Alley can provide strategic and creative services from start to finish — or step in at any part of the process. We’ve got the internal and external resources — and we know when to bring them to the table. Back Alley Films has the experience and sensibilities of traditional production companies, but also a mentality that works in this new world of media options and budget constraints. BAF also has the advantage of working in conjunction with T2, when appropriate, to create a one stop creative experience that fully exploits the creative options of combining production with post, motion design and digital effects.
So that’s Back Alley Films, in a nutshell. You’ve probably read enough to get a sense of what we do. But you know who hasn’t read enough? The search engine robots that coldly scour every website in the world with their emotionless precision looking for key words like digital production services and commercial directors so they can catalogue & rank & drive the masses to the select few internet locations they deem “relevant.”
And do we see ourselves as having such pure artistic integrity that we can decline to curry favor with these robots? No. We do not. We’re just like everyone else, trying to scratch out a meal, terrified of the robots and their rankings.
Back Alley Films may have many award winning directors on its roster (awards such as Clio Awards, Addy Awards, Cannes Lion Awards, American League Most Value Player Awards, Peabody Awards for best public service journalism, and probably some Restaurant Awards in the category of Eastern European cuisine) but just because a director has been awarded doesn’t mean he or she is suddenly fearless against the awesome power of the search robots. Our effects directors know enough about technology to understand just how in thrall they are to the robots. Our comedy directors are funny people. And do you know how you become funny? From pain. And where does the pain come from? From living in fear of robots.
